Objective
The security of homes and personal belongings is a top priority for MyFamilyAbroad (MFA). Although situations of loss or disappearance of items remain rare, this policy aims to provide a clear, fair, and responsible framework for handling these incidents when they occur during or immediately after an MFA stay.
This policy falls within the scope of the MFA Host Protection Guarantee and supplements the Damage Management Policy.
⚠️ Important Preliminary Note
In many cases, an item reported as missing has simply been inadvertently moved (by a Young Person, a guest family, or a provider) and is later found.
👉 Before making any official report, Host Families are strongly encouraged to conduct a thorough search of the property.
1. General Principle – Lost or Missing Items
- MFA may cover Host Families up to €100,000 per stay for the loss or disappearance of personal items that occurred during an MFA stay, when it is:
- directly attributable to the acts of a Guest Family, a hosted Young Person, or a provider coordinated by MFA,
- observed within the context of a confirmed stay.
- Coverage is conditional upon MFA being able to:
- investigate the circumstances,
- qualify the event as eligible,
- verify that the item is not already covered by the Host's personal insurance.
⚠️ This protection does not replace homeowner's insurance or valuable items insurance.
2. Reporting a Lost or Missing Item
2.1 Reporting Deadline
- All reports must be made within 7 days of the Young Person's departure.
- In the event of the Host's travel-related absence, the deadline may be extended to 7 days after return, upon presentation of supporting documentation.
- Any report made after the deadline may be rejected.
2.2 Reporting Procedure
The report must be sent by email to: 📩 [email protected]
It must include:
- a detailed description of the item (type, brand, color, distinctive features),
- a value estimate,
